To celebrate the launch of racing simulation game Forza Motorsport 7, Xbox Australia is on Tuesday taking the wraps off limited edition “gamewear” that “offers gamers unparalleled coziness and functionality as they hit the virtual track”.
Inspired by actual motorsport racewear and with input from Porsche, the new garment has a name as sleek and exciting as the cars from the game itself: the Xbox Onesie: Forza Motorsport 7 Performance Edition.
It’s a onesie. It’s a plush onesie like the clothes babies wear, but for adults. And car themed.
Xbox Australia has provided this list of specs that makes the garment sound totally like a high quality piece of equipment and not at all like baby clothes:
Fully breathable fabric that offers a stain proof gaming experience
A tighter, tailored fit, providing race suit performance from the comfort of the couch
Elasticated pockets, ensuring your devices stay secure – even when drifting
Forearm and backside padding, making even the longest stint a breeze
Built-in detachable hydration pouch with easily accessible mouthpiece – giving gamers access to their favourite drinks whilst laying down their lap time
But this high performance outerwear is more than just a slimmer version of last year’s marketing stunt with a collar instead of a hood and a drinking straw sticking out the top of it, says actual professional driver Chelsea Angelo.
“With so many similarities to real race suits, the Performance Edition Onesie is the perfect pairing to the most realistic motorsport game ever created”, she says in a release.
“Motorsport is a risky business with dangers at every turn, so keeping cool and remaining comfortable is crucial to success”.
This is equally true whether you’re racing actual cars at hundreds of kilometres an hour, or you’re sitting on your couch at home and would prefer not to wear pants.
To be totally honest I was open to the idea of gaming onesies when the original one was announced last year. It’s not all that different from gaming in your pyjamas — except no no more pesky elastic waistbands! — but in reality it wasn’t the most comfortable experience. Maybe the stretchier, more breathy Forza edition changes that, who knows.
Forza Motorsport 7 is out on Xbox One and Windows 10 today. The racing-themed body bags will be made available this week on the Xbox Australia Facebook page.
